In the quiet heart of Karanaiwai East, Karavetti, Jaffna, a legend took his final bow. Ponniah Balachandran, a man whose life was a symphony of love, devotion, and compassion, departed from this world on Monday, September 4, 2023, at the age of 86. He now rests in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy that will forever echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born to the late Ponniah (Retired Principal) and Sivakami, and cherished son-in-law of the late Sithambaram, Manikam, Ponniah Balachandran embodied the values of a bygone era, where family bonds were sacred and love was unconditional.

As the loving husband of Kamaladevi, he shared a bond that transcended time, weathering life’s storms together, and basking in its joys as one.

Ponniah Balachandran was a beloved brother to the late Pandithar Pon Ganeshan (Education Officer), the late Ponniah Mahadevan (Chief clerk), and Ponniah Somasuntharam (Veterinarian, London). His presence was a pillar of strength that held his family together across continents.

He embraced the role of a father with unmatched grace and tenderness. His children, Nanthini, Pavananandan (London), Nalini (Colombo), and Nalayini (Netherlands), were the center of his world. His guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love enriched their lives beyond measure.

Uncle to Gowri (Paris) and Sundari (Australia), he was a guiding light to the younger generation, offering them wisdom and love as they navigated life’s complex tapestry.

As the loving father-in-law of Ravindran (Retired Principal), Kumaranesan (Engineer, Colombo), Velayudham Pillai (Netherlands), and Ambalika (London), he welcomed each into his family with open arms, and they became an integral part of his life.

The joy of his life was his grandchildren: Ingaran, Praveena, Niloshan, Kanya, Aaron, Akshara, Venukanan, Nithila, Vinushan, Nithushan, Karthika, Tharshika, and Sophika. His eyes sparkled with pride and happiness in their presence, and he was their guiding star, imparting life’s most valuable lessons.

He was a cherished brother-in-law to the late K.C. Mahadevan (Retired Assistant Commissioner), Maheswari (Poobaththi), the late Mahalingam (Retired Education Advisor), Sundaralingam (Station Master – Ottisudan), Bhuvaneswari, and Lingavathi. His camaraderie with them brought warmth to family gatherings.

Ponniah Balachandran was the beloved uncle of Sivakumar (Canada), the late Jeyakumaar, Kumari (Canada), Shanthi (Canada), Balakumar (Canada), Madanraj (London), Meenakshi (London), Meghala (London), and Neeraja (USA). His guidance and love touched the lives of many.

In his honor, a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 9:00 AM at his residence in Karavetti. His final journey will conclude with a cremation at the Sonappu Hindu Cemetery, where he will find eternal rest.

The family requests that all relatives, friends, and acquaintances join them in cherishing the memories of Ponniah Balachandran and accept this announcement.
